The title is funny, the concept is interesting - and yet, the execution feels flat. A verbatim play about our relationship to looks and aging, Too Old for Leo adds to the challenge for the actors by having the audio recordings (edited) play in their ear, so they relay them live. A neat idea…however in practice for the audience, it just feels like a demonstration of acting skill rather than something that brings us along on the journey.
This is exacerbated by the staging, which sees the performers sit still, moving between chairs in between sections, only to sit still again. The performers do an admirable job with this, but while contemplative, it just leaves the audience questioning why this was a play and not a podcast.
